Jury children are experts on the rights of the child

The international children's jury decides which of the candidates should receive the World’s Children’s Prize for their work for the rights of the child. The jury children are experts on the rights of the child – from their own experience!
The jury children primarily represent all the children in the world whose experiences they share. However, each child also represents the children of their country and their continent. Where possible, the jury comprises children from all continents and all major religions.

How the children of the jury are elected
The children of the jury are elected on the basis of their merits and their own experiences. The jury is composed so that it represents as many different aspects of rights of the child as possible. Children learn about their rights through the violations that the children of the jury have been subjected to. The children of the jury should also, as far as possible, represent all the world’s continents and main religions.
The jury members are appointed by WCPRC. Some are elected, however; there have been two Internet elections in Brazil to decide who will represent street children.

Former jury members
Although jury members are 'retired' from the jury when they are 18, they continue to promote the rights of the child and represent WCPRC as Honorary Adult Friends.

When the door closes at the jury’s prize meeting, the translators, who are the only adults in the room, know that they must only translate exactly what the jury children say.

Children of the jury on the Prize Committee
The WCPRC carefully studies all the nominated prize candidates that are received. The 6-10 candidates that are judged as being the best-merited to receive the children’s prizes are put forward to the children's jury Prize Committee.

Chair person of the jury
The children of the jury select their own chair person. The chair person’s job is to chair the jury meetings and often acts as spokesman for the jury. Omar Bandak from Palestine was chair person for 2008.
